Changes are in the works for the Main Street Steamboat Springs organization, which unveiled a new logo, introduced a new board president and previewed a new website Tuesday.

Main Street held its annual meeting and luncheon at Aurum, where Program Manager Lisa Popovich shared with attendees the accomplishments of the last year and a handful of new projects and initiatives to look forward to.

After calling the meeting to order, board President Jon Sanders announced that it would be his last meeting as president, and he would be turning over the position to board member Sally TeStrake, who he said had already assumed president responsibilities over the last few months.

TeStrake, an executive assistant and office manager at Green Courte Partners on Yampa Street, was unanimously approved by board members as Main Street’s new president.

Sanders and TeStrake both spoke highly of the improved landscape of business in downtown Steamboat Springs.

“Our economy has grown quite a bit,” Sanders said. “We’re excited for where we are now and for where we are going.”

Sanders, who co-operates Ski Town Commercial real estate, pointed out how most downtown business vacancies have now been filled.

“I think it’s a really exciting time to be involved with downtown business in Steamboat,” TeStrake said.

New Main Street board members sworn in Tuesday were Liza Scudder, of Overland, Christopher Slota, of Bank of the West, Chris Dillenbeck, of F.M. Light and Sons, and Dr. Kristen Van De Carr, of Action Chiropractic.

Later in the meeting, a new Main Street logo was unveiled by SeeMe Media director and Main Street volunteer Casey Barnett.

A nationwide call for logo artists produced 103 submissions for a potential new logo to replace the previous image of Lincoln Avenue and Steamboat Ski Area.

Main Street Steamboat Springs LogoThe winning submission, which was fine-tuned by a local artist, is a simple cowboy hat, with the shape of mountains within the hat. The brim of the hat is curved up on either side, resembling a smile, along with the words Main Street Steamboat Springs in specific fonts.

“A cowboy hat represents the hospitality locals provide to all visitor,” Barnett said. “And the mountains are a part of who our community is.”

The new logo will be seen on posters, T-shirts, notepads and on a new Main Street website now under development.

The organization is still gathering content to fill the more extensive site, and its expected to debut as early as June, Barnett said.

Also discussed Tuesday was a new Main Street America pilot program Main Street Steamboat will take part in, upcoming Front Range marketing plans and new event ideas for the coming year.

The mission of Main Street Steamboat Springs is to preserve, promote and enhance downtown Steamboat Springs.
